What was a great idea for a movie, was a let down.
One night every year, all crime is legal. It is called the Purge. "Cleanse your soul of all the angry, hatred, and violence." Most people on this night commit murder. Others lock themselves in their homes and wake until 7:00 A.M. On the night of the Purge, one family locks their doors, expecting to be safe. But when their son sees a man drenched in his own blood calling out for help. The son opens the doors and lets the man in. Soon their house is swarmed with psychos. The night turns a fight for their lives. Sounds like a great movie. But it wasn't. The psychos are after the guy the kid let in. They want to kill him because he's homeless. They tell the family to give the guy up or their going to kill the family, too. Now what they don't go into in the movie is that the homeless guy is an American soldier. When you watch the movie, the guy is tied to a chair and you can see dog-tags around his neck. This is an interesting detail because many soldiers that return from their service become homeless because they don't have a college degree, money, or a job. An interesting piece of information that would really be good in the movie. Is it is the movie? No! And I bet there are a lot of people who saw the Purge and didn't notice the dog-tags. From there, it's all down hill.... I give this movie 2 stars. 1 for the idea behind the movie. The other for the homeless soldier. It brings to light a real problem in America. But it was not focused on in the movie, so it was a miss. But the soldier was the best part.
